De Rossi: ‘Dybala’s decision to remain was very emotional’

Roma manager Daniele De Rossi addressed the media ahead of Sunday’s Serie A match against Empoli, touching on various topics including Paulo Dybala’s decision to stay at the club and the ongoing transfer market.

De Rossi expressed his admiration for Dybala’s commitment to Roma, stating, “Dybala’s choice is very rare in today’s world of football. It was a very emotional situation full of ups and downs. Now the fans see in him not only a technical leader, they must also be proud of him. I expect the Olimpico to give him a special welcome tomorrow.”

Regarding the transfer market, De Rossi emphasized its ongoing nature, saying, “Now it is premature to talk about a complete team or not – there’s still seven players missing to complete the squad. At the end of the transfer window we will know better who we are.”

The Roma boss also criticized the overlap of the transfer window with the start of the season, noting, “There is a fundamental issue – this rule of having football played at the same time as the market bastardizes the first two matchdays. It’s difficult to get a reading of the team during this time.”

Turning his attention to the upcoming match, De Rossi praised Empoli as “a talented team” and assured that his squad has focused on preparation despite transfer rumors. He also discussed potential lineup choices, mentioning that Dybala and Soulé could play together depending on the opponent.

De Rossi addressed individual player situations, including his decision to exclude Karsdorp from his plans and his open communication with Dybala. He also spoke about the right-back position and recent signings, crediting sporting director Ghisolfi for identifying new talents.
