Roma find themselves at a crossroads as Paulo Dybala edges closer to a departure for Al Qadsiah. The impending transfer has left both fans and manager Daniele De Rossi uneasy, with the latter emphasizing the need for a suitable replacement after witnessing Dybala’s impact in their season opener against Cagliari.
De Rossi’s message to the club was clear: “I would be scared of a Roma without Dybala, or without a worthy substitute.” The coach understands that while youngsters like Soulé and Baldanzi show promise, an immediate impact player is necessary to fill the void left by the Argentine star.
Calciomercaro report that the club’s sporting director, Ghisolfi, now faces the challenge of finding a replacement, though not necessarily with identical characteristics to Dybala. The focus may shift to a pure attacking winger who can alternate or start ahead of El Shaarawy and Soulé, currently the only specialized wingers in the squad alongside the versatile Zalewski.
Several names have emerged as potential targets. Jeremie Boga, despite struggling at Atalanta, is remembered for his impressive performances at Sassuolo. Valued at around €20 million , the Ivorian has already expressed interest in joining Roma.
Cyril Ngonge is another option being explored. Currently facing limited opportunities at his club under Antonio Conte, Ngonge could be looking for a fresh start. Additionally, Joaquin Correa has been proposed by his agent. While not a pure winger, Correa’s playing style is more akin to Dybala’s, though he’s currently out of favour at Inter Milan.
These options, however, have not excited the Roma fanbase. Having already bid farewell to Romelu Lukaku earlier in the summer, supporters are yearning for a marquee signing that would reignite their Champions League aspirations – the club’s declared objective for the season.
