Napoli have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian winger David Neres from Benfica. The announcement came first through the customary tweet from club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, followed by an official statement on Napoli’s website. The transfer is reported to be worth a total of €30 million.
In their official communication, Napoli stated that they have acquired David Neres on a permanent basis from Benfica. The club highlighted some impressive statistics from Neres’ time in the Portuguese Primeira Liga:
– From 2022/23 to 2023/24, only Pedro Gonçalves (23) and Rafa Silva (16) provided more assists than Neres (15) in the league. Notably, Neres achieved this in significantly less playing time.
– In the same period, only Rafa Silva (102) completed more dribbles than Neres (91) for Benfica.
– Neres was one of only two Benfica players to both score more than 10 goals and provide more than 10 assists (11 goals, 15 assists) in the Portuguese top flight during his tenure.
The announcement also emphasized Neres’ achievements during his time at Ajax:
– Between February 2017 and December 2021, Neres was one of only two Ajax players to score at least 35 goals and provide at least 25 assists in the Eredivisie, alongside Dusan Tadic.
– In the same period, only Hakim Ziyech (265) completed more dribbles than Neres (246) in the Eredivisie for Ajax.
