Napoli eyeing Amrabat: Conte approves, talks with Fiorentina underway

Start

Napoli are rekindling interest in Sofyan Amrabat, the powerful Moroccan midfielder, three years after their initial pursuit in the summer of 2021. The 27-year-old has recently returned to Fiorentina following the expiration of his loan spell at Manchester United.

Calciomercato detail how Antonio Conte, Napoli’s new manager, has reportedly given his approval for Amrabat’s potential arrival. The Moroccan international is on Napoli’s shortlist alongside his former Manchester United teammate Scott McTominay. While Napoli’s sporting director Manna remains focused on resolving the Osimhen-Lukaku situation, the club is actively working to strengthen their midfield, which appeared particularly vulnerable in their season opener against Verona.

Amrabat’s 2023/24 season at Manchester United fell short of expectations. He often found himself relegated to the bench, losing his spot to 18-year-old academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo. Despite this, Amrabat did start in the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City. Overall, he made 30 appearances for United across all competitions, occasionally even filling in as a right-back.

Napoli’s renewed interest in Amrabat comes as they look to bolster their squad under Conte’s leadership. The potential acquisition of the Moroccan midfielder could provide much-needed depth and experience to Napoli’s midfield as they aim to compete on multiple fronts this season.
