Lookman requests to be Left out of Atalanta squad amid transfer speculation

Start

Atalanta are preparing to face Lecce in their Serie A 2024/25 season opener, but they will be without one of their key players. Ademola Lookman has not been included in the squad for the match, reportedly due to transfer market reasons.

According to Sky Sport’s Massimiliano Nebuloni, Lookman has asked not to be called up for the game. The Nigerian forward believes he is a target for Paris Saint-Germain, although Atalanta has not received any official or formal offers for the player. As a result, Lookman has decided to withdraw himself from the squad and will not travel with his teammates for the away fixture.

This news comes as a blow to manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who will now be without one of his most decisive players from last season. Lookman played a crucial role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph, starring in the final victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Atalanta is already dealing with several injury-related absences, including Toloi, Kolasinac, Scalvini, Scamacca, and Zaniolo. Additionally, Teun Koopmeiners is also unavailable for selection.

The club has released their official squad list for the Lecce match, which includes 23 players but notably omits Lookman. As the transfer window remains open, Atalanta fans will be anxiously waiting to see how this situation develops and whether Lookman will remain with the club beyond the summer.
