New Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino expressed a mix of optimism and realism following his team’s 1-1 draw against Parma in their Serie A opener. The former Monza coach acknowledged the challenges of implementing new playing principles with different players but remained confident in the team’s potential.
“With new principles of play and different players, it takes time and patience,” Palladino stated. “Today we did many positive things, but there are aspects to correct, both in choices and from a technical point of view. I’m not worried, we just need time. I appreciated the team spirit, we created chances to score.”
Addressing the ongoing speculation about Sofyan Amrabat’s future, Palladino expressed his admiration for the player: “I really care for him, he’s an extraordinary guy and a great relationship has been created between us. He’s a sincere person with a good heart. From day one, he has shown his commitment, sending positive signals to both me and Fiorentina. Market rumors are normal for a player of his caliber, and it will be up to him and the club to decide his future. I hope I can continue to coach him because for me he’s an exceptional player.”
Palladino highlighted the positive aspects of the team’s performance, praising their spirit, compactness, and desire to react to difficulties. He noted that in the second half, Fiorentina put Parma under pressure and could have won if not for a red card.
However, the coach also pointed out areas for improvement, particularly in defense: “There were too many individual errors, and it will be my job to correct them. The team was used to defending as a unit, while now I ask a lot in individual duels. It takes time to adapt, but I’m calm because we have strong players.”
Regarding the transfer market, Palladino admitted it was a source of frustration but acknowledged it as a reality to be accepted. He expressed confidence in the club’s work, stating, “We’re still under construction. We’re still missing something, especially in defense, but the club is aware of it and is working well. I’m sure I’ll reach the end of the market with a ready squad.”
Palladino also praised young player Comuzzo and provided an update on Gudmundsson’s fitness, expressing eagerness to have the latter available soon.
