Inzaghi: ‘We will have five strikers, we need another important reinforcement’

As Serie A prepares to kick off, Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi addressed the media ahead of their opening match against Genoa. The reigning champions face a challenging start at the Marassi stadium, with Inzaghi acknowledging the difficulty of the fixture.

“We all know a new season is starting, and we’ll have a tough debut on a difficult pitch,” Inzaghi stated. “Genoa is in good form, has an excellent coach, and they’ve set a record for season ticket sales. We’ll be playing in a heated atmosphere.”

Reflecting on Inter’s status as champions and favorites, Inzaghi emphasized the need to leave last season’s success behind while maintaining their winning mentality. “We have great responsibility. We’re ready and know that in the past, teams that won the Scudetto have then found difficulties.”

Regarding the squad, Inzaghi expressed satisfaction with retaining the core group while adding quality players. However, he hinted at potential further reinforcements: “We still have something to finalize given Buchanan’s injury. We’ve discussed it with management and the president; they know we need an important player there who can give us more rotation options.”

On the attacking front, Inzaghi confirmed the team will keep five forwards for now, stating, “We’ve made evaluations together with the club, and at this moment we’ve chosen to stay with the five attackers we currently have.”

Looking ahead to the season’s objectives, Inzaghi remained ambitious yet cautious. “It’s never easy to repeat, but we’ll try with all our strength. The difference lies in commitment and concentration. Last year we were perfect, but teams are constantly evolving, and we’ll need to improve further.”
