AC Milan are on the verge of completing the signing of Youssouf Fofana from Monaco. The Rossoneri’s latest offer, exceeding €20 million including bonuses, has overcome Monaco’s final resistance. After acknowledging the player’s desire to leave the project, Monaco has acquiesced to his wish to move to the Italian league.
Calciomercato report that the situation became almost inevitable, considering Fofana’s contract expires in June 2025 and the player has been in talks with Milan for several weeks. The agreement is based on a contract until 2028, with a net salary of €3 million per season.
According to reports, Fofana is expected to arrive in Milan tomorrow, with medical examinations scheduled for Saturday. He should then officially become a Milan player. For the season opener against Torino, Fofana is expected to be present at San Siro to greet his new fans. The French international will be Milan’s fourth summer signing, following Alvaro Morata, Strahinja Pavlovic, and Emerson Royal.
Monaco’s general director Thiago Scuro confirmed the ongoing negotiations in a press conference: “We spoke two weeks ago, and he informed us of his desire to leave the club. Contacts between the clubs are ongoing to find a final agreement that suits everyone. We hope this can be found as soon as possible. The negotiation is progressing, slowly, but it’s progressing.”
Milan coach Paulo Fonseca’s recent comments after the match against Monza were telling: “Do we need a midfielder in front of the defence? Fofana is the midfielder in front of the defence… we all know that.” These words quickly turned into action as Milan made their final, decisive offer to break down Monaco’s resistance and secure their new midfielder.
