Emerson Royal, the Brazilian defender, was officially introduced as AC Milan’s newest signing during a press conference. He shared his enthusiasm for joining the club and the reasons behind his decision. “It was the best option for me: I keep Milan in my blood. I can play both offensively and defensively, and I have the desire. Milan has always believed in me. Despite being very young, I’ve been a leader in every team I’ve played for; it’s in my character. I talk a lot with my teammates, even during training. I want to thank Zlatan and Milan for this opportunity and for the effort to bring me here. I want to do my best,” Emerson stated.
Reflecting on Milan’s history with Brazilian players, Emerson added, “Milan has had Thiago Silva, Cafu… I believe all Brazilians who have been here have written a beautiful story for the club. Milan is getting an Emerson who is very prepared: the time I’ve spent with former teams has taught me a lot. I’m coming with a lot of motivation. You have a warrior to rely on.”
Emerson also expressed admiration for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, saying, “Zlatan makes a difference on a global level, everyone knows that. I used to watch him on TV, and he has had an incredible career: he has always shown this desire to win. It was a great satisfaction to know that someone like Ibra was keeping an eye on me. I want to repay this effort, and I want to do it on the field.”
Regarding his choice of the number 22 jersey, Emerson explained, “It has a history with Milan and was worn by Kaká: I had this number in the national team. In my best seasons, I’ve had this number. People know that the past of Milan’s number 22 is very bright: I haven’t spoken with him yet, but having this legacy is one of the most beautiful things in my life.”
