A new chapter has unfolded in the ongoing saga involving Teun Koopmeiners and his potential move from Atalanta to Juventus. According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Calciomercato), the Dutch midfielder has taken a significant step by submitting a medical certificate to Atalanta, citing health reasons related to stress. This move, advised by his agent Bart Baving, has resulted in Koopmeiners missing recent training sessions with Atalanta and opting out of a friendly match against St. Pauli in Hamburg, Germany. This match serves as the final preparation before the European Super Cup against Real Madrid, scheduled for August 14 in Warsaw, Poland.
The situation bears a resemblance to a past incident involving Brazilian midfielder Emerson, who two decades ago presented a medical certificate to Roma citing depression, eventually facilitating his move to Juventus under Fabio Capello.
Koopmeiners is under contract with Atalanta until June 2027. He joined the club in 2021 from AZ Alkmaar for €14 million and has since made a notable impact, scoring 29 goals in 129 appearances and winning the Europa League. The midfielder has reportedly reached an agreement with Juventus for a five-year contract, offering him a net annual salary of €4.5 million until June 2028.
In recent developments, Juventus have increased their offer for Koopmeiners to €55 million, including bonuses, while Atalanta’s asking price stands at €60 million.
