Olympique de Marseille has officially announced the signing of 19-year-old Valentín Carboni from Inter Milan. The deal is structured as a loan agreement with an option for a permanent transfer, which reflects Marseille’s commitment to enhancing their squad for the upcoming season.
Carboni, a versatile playmaker, has shown great promise during his time with Inter Milan, where he made a significant impact in the U19 squad and had a brief stint with the senior team. His performances last season while on loan at AC Monza helped him gain valuable experience in senior football, contributing to his selection for the Argentine national team that recently triumphed at the Copa América. Notably, he made a substitute appearance in the group stage against Peru.
The loan deal includes a purchase option set at €40 million, allowing Marseille to secure Carboni’s services permanently if he meets expectations during his time at the club. Inter Milan has also retained a buyback clause, ensuring they have the opportunity to re-sign the talented midfielder should he excel in Ligue 1.
Marseille’s new coach, Roberto De Zerbi, has expressed strong interest in Carboni, seeing him as a key player in shaping the team’s future. The club is keen to integrate the young talent into their attacking setup, especially as they prepare for the new season.
A statement on Marseille’s official website read:
“Olympique de Marseille are delighted to announce the signing of Valentín Carboni from Inter Milan. The 19-year-old midfielder has joined the club on loan with an option to buy, following a successful medical.”
