Napoli’s plan for Billy Gilmour takes shape

Start

Napoli are making a renewed effort to secure Billy Gilmour from Brighton, with a revised offer expected to convince the English club. The 23-year-old Scottish midfielder has already given his approval to the move, while Gianluca Gaetano prepares for his departure.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A giants are ready to increase their initial bid of around €10 million, which was rejected by Brighton. The new offer is expected to reach approximately €12 million, including bonuses, which Napoli believes will be sufficient to seal the deal.

Gilmour, who has a contract with Brighton until 2026, is seen as the ideal reinforcement for Napoli’s midfield. New manager Antonio Conte values Gilmour’s quick, vertical playing style and views him as a genuine alternative to Stanislav Lobotka.

To facilitate Gilmour’s arrival, Napoli are working on outgoing transfers. Gianluca Gaetano is likely to join Parma, with the deal expected to bring in €8-9 million. This sum will be reinvested in the Gilmour transfer.

Additionally, Napoli are considering the sale of Michael Folorunsho, who recently renewed his contract until 2029. A potential move to Atalanta fell through, but Napoli remains open to offers for the right price.

The club are also eyeing Marco Brescianini from Frosinone as another midfield target, valued at €12 million. However, this move may depend on further outgoing transfers.

As Napoli reshaps its midfield, the future of striker Victor Osimhen remains a separate but crucial issue. The club is also looking to offload Walid Cheddira, with several clubs interested in a loan deal, though Napoli prefers a permanent transfer.

Conte is eager for these reinforcements to arrive before the start of the season, as he seeks to enhance both the quality and depth of the squad. The coming days are expected to be crucial in Napoli’s transfer activities as they aim to build a competitive team for the upcoming campaign.
