Roma have officially introduced their latest acquisition, Artem Dovbyk, in a highly anticipated ffirst interview following his permanent transfer from Girona. The Ukrainian striker expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Italian club and shared his aspirations for his time in the capital.
Dovbyk began by expressing his joy at completing the move, stating, “I am very happy to be here. This negotiation has finally concluded and I can’t wait to experience the first days with the team. I’m very happy right now.”
The striker revealed that personal conversations with Roma’s ownership played a crucial role in his decision. “I spoke to Dan and Ryan [Friedkin]. I had never spoken to the club president before a transfer. This certainly convinced me to come here. I really want to thank the Friedkin family for their confidence,” Dovbyk explained.
When asked about his choice to join Roma, Dovbyk highlighted the club’s stature and ambitions: “Because it is one of the best Italian clubs, with an important project in which I believe a lot. I hope we can do something interesting next season.”
Acknowledging the pressure that comes with playing for a club of Roma’s caliber, Dovbyk embraced the challenge: “Roma is a very important and passionate club compared to Girona. I know there is a lot of pressure on me, but football without pressure is not football.”
The Ukrainian international set high expectations for himself, saying, “I feel the responsibility, but it’s an honor to play here in Italy, so I will try to show my best football, I want to be able to do it in Italy. I hope to score many goals here.”
Dovbyk also mentioned his conversation with Roma manager Daniele De Rossi, which further solidified his decision to join the club. “He explained to me about his tactical ideas, then he told me a little about the club. After this conversation, I felt a positive emotion and that’s also why I made this choice,” he revealed.
Finally, the new Roma striker expressed his excitement about playing at the Stadio Olimpico: “It is a wonderful stadium, I have seen many matches played at the Olimpico. There are always 70 thousand fans, it’s extraordinary to play in front of so many people. I think a stadium like this gives you that extra energy.”
