Fiorentina step up pursuit of Genoa’s Gudmundsson

Start

Fiorentina have renewed their interest in Albert Gudmundsson, the Icelandic forward who impressed with Genoa last season. This comes just six months after their unsuccessful attempt to sign him during the 2023/2024 winter transfer window.

According to Calciomercato, the Florence-based club are reportedly optimistic about securing a deal this time. Inter Milan have withdrawn from the race after strengthening their attack with Taremi, while interest from Premier League clubs has waned, despite Gudmundsson’s preference for English football.

Fiorentina’s pursuit of Gudmundsson could gain more traction if they sell Nico Gonzalez. Atalanta have offered €20 million plus goalkeeper Juan Musso, while Juventus are considering a deal involving Weston McKennie plus cash for the Argentine winger.

For Gudmundsson, a move to Fiorentina would mean a return to European competition. The club are set to participate in the Conference League playoffs in August, having reached the finals in the last two seasons. The Icelandic forward previously made about a dozen appearances in European competitions with AZ Alkmaar.

Last season, Gudmundsson was instrumental in securing Genoa’s comfortable survival in Serie A, scoring 16 goals and providing 5 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
