Bologna are looking at alternative defensive options as they await a response regarding free-agent Mats Hummels. The club has not yet received a definitive answer, leaving them to consider alternative solutions. According to Sportitalia journalist Alfredo Pedulla, one such option is Josip Sutalo, a central defender from Ajax, who has caught the attention of Bologna’s management.
Sutalo, born in 2000, has been closely monitored by Bologna, and the club is now inquiring about his availability. Ajax acquired the Croatian defender for around €20 million last summer from Dinamo Zagreb, and while he is not considered untouchable by new manager Francesco Farioli, Bologna are weighing their options, especially if Hummels takes more time to decide.
In addition to Sutalo, Bologna has also shown interest in Bijol from Udinese, who is priced at €15 million plus bonuses. However, the focus appears to be shifting towards Sutalo as the club evaluates its defensive needs.
Bologna’s management, led by sporting director Giovanni Sartori, is keen to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The potential addition of Sutalo could provide the defensive reinforcement the team is looking for, especially if the situation surrounding Hummels remains unresolved.
