Former Roma and Salernitana sporting director Walter Sabatini shared his insights on the upcoming Serie A season, suggesting Inter are still title favourites. Known for his keen eye on market developments, Sabatini offered his thoughts on potential favorites and surprises for the new campaign when speaking with OkCalcioMercato:
We are less than a month away from the start of Serie A, teams are forming and moving in the transfer market. Which is your favorite and which could be the positive surprise in this season that’s about to begin?
“Inter remains the favorite. The Nerazzurri have improved the team that dominated the championship last year, so it’s normal for it to be this way. As for a surprise, I say Roma because they are working with a very precise idea in the market as well and are doing well in general. I think they will do well.”
Moving on to Roma, who better than you can say a few words about Daniele De Rossi? You’ve just defined Roma as the possible surprise of the upcoming championship. If this happens, is it also due to the club’s decision to bet on the young coach?
“Daniele is a splendid person, he will have to give Roma what he has given so far. The team follows him and it shows. The club’s choice is paying off because Daniele is a son of Rome and you can see he is emotionally involved. This is a great advantage. He must continue like this because he can truly be a beautiful surprise in this championship.”
Finally, a comment on the new Juventus under Thiago Motta. How do you see it and what prospects do you think it might have?
“Juventus has made an important choice. If Thiago Motta brings to Turin what he beautifully demonstrated in Bologna, it will be a perfect choice for the Bianconeri. It won’t be easy, but everything will depend on that.”
