New Bologna signing Holm suffers injury setback

Bologna have encountered a setback in their pre-season preparations as new signing Emil Holm suffered a knee injury during training. The Swedish defender, who recently joined the club, sustained a left knee sprain during a practice session on Tuesday, potentially ruling him out for a month.

The club initially released a statement confirming the injury and announcing that Holm would return to Bologna for further medical examinations. These tests were conducted on Thursday, July 25th, and fortunately revealed no major ligament damage.

According to the medical report, Holm has suffered a “distorsive trauma to the left knee, without major lesions.” The club estimates his recovery time to be between 2-3 weeks, which is a relief considering initial concerns of a potentially more serious injury.

This news comes as a disappointment for new Bologna manager Vincenzo Italiano, who will have to plan without Holm for the immediate future. The injury prevented the player from participating in the team’s recent friendly match against local side Brixen.

Holm, known for his versatility as a right-sided defender who can also play on the left, joined Bologna after impressing at Atalanta last season. He made 32 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta, contributing one goal and three assists.

The timing of the injury is unfortunate as Bologna prepares for an exciting season ahead. The club is set to compete in the Champions League for the first time, following their impressive campaign under former coach Thiago Motta last year.

While the injury is a setback, the relatively short recovery time means Holm should be available for selection early in the new season.
