Despite his strong performance at Bologna, which included four goals and three assists, and helping the club secure a historic Champions League qualification, Bologna did not exercise their option to buy him, leading to his return to Milan.
Currently, Saelemaekers is training with his Milan teammates under the guidance of coach Paulo Fonseca.
