Roma Eyes Rennes’ Assignon for Right-Back Position

Start

Roma are reportedly considering Lorenz Assignon, a 23-year-old French right-back from Stade Rennes, as a potential reinforcement for their squad ahead of the upcoming season. This interest comes as Roma looks to strengthen various positions, not just in attack.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Assignon, who spent the previous season on loan at Burnley in the Premier League, has caught the attention of the Giallorossi. While Burnley is interested in making the move permanent, Assignon is reportedly reluctant to play in the Championship following Burnley’s relegation. Roma is said to be the player’s preferred destination at this point.

This potential move could further strengthen the connection between Roma and Rennes, following the recent transfer of midfielder Enzo Le Fée to the Italian club. However, negotiations may face challenges due to Rennes’ valuation of the player. Earlier reports suggested that Rennes was asking for around €10 million for Assignon, which had deterred other interested clubs like Bournemouth and Marseille.

Roma’s interest in Assignon aligns with their strategy to bolster their defensive options, particularly in the right-back position. The young Frenchman’s experience in Ligue 1 and the Premier League could prove valuable for Roma as they aim to compete on multiple fronts next season.
