After securing deals for Noslin, Tchaouna, and Dele-Bashiru, Lazio are now focusing on strengthening their defence. The Italian side has set their sights on Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares, with negotiations between the two clubs ongoing.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the talks are progressing, and a call between Lazio and Tavares’ agents is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10[5]. However, there appears to be a significant gap between Arsenal’s valuation and Lazio’s offer. The English club is reportedly asking for €8-9 million for the left-back, while Lazio’s bid is lower. Additionally, Arsenal is seeking a substantial percentage of any future transfer fee for Tavares, whose contract with the Gunners runs until 2025.
Tavares, who spent the last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, made twelve appearances across the Premier League and FA Cup. Despite his recent loan spell, the Portuguese defender has expressed his determination to fight for his place at Arsenal. However, his current status at the London club remains uncertain.
This potential move comes as Lazio looks to bolster their squad for the upcoming season under new manager Marco Baroni. The acquisition of Tavares would provide additional depth and competition in the left-back position for the Serie A side.
As negotiations continue, both clubs will need to find common ground on the transfer fee and future sell-on clause. The coming days will be crucial in determining whether Nuno Tavares will be wearing the Biancocelesti colours in the 2024/25 season.
