After 25 years, Fabrizio Ravanelli is making a return to Olympique Marseille. The former striker has been announced by the club, which has recently appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach. Ravanelli will take on the role of sporting advisor and club representative, both in France and internationally, a position created at the request of club president Pablo Longoria.
The Role
Ravanelli, now 55 and affectionately known as “Penna Bianca” (White Feather), is a well-regarded sports commentator. He will now transition back into a practical role for a club he knows intimately. Ravanelli played for Marseille from 1997 to 1999, during which he also served as captain, scoring 31 goals in 84 appearances. Prior to his media career, he gained coaching experience with Juventus’ youth teams, Ajaccio, and Arsenal Kyiv.
Ravanelli’s Statement
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Ravanelli stated, “Returning to OM, 25 years later, in this advisory role, is a true source of pride for me and also implies great responsibility.
