Inter defender Stefan de Vrij was one of the standout performers in the Euro 2024 quarter-final, where the Netherlands came from behind to defeat Turkey. The Inter player scored a crucial goal with a powerful header, marking his first goal for the national team in 9 years. This performance earned him UEFA’s Man of the Match award and helped secure a semi-final clash against England in Dortmund on July 10th.
In an interview with Sky Sport, De Vrij addressed recent transfer speculations linking him with Saudi Arabian clubs, particularly Al-Ittihad, potentially to be managed by ex-Milan coach Stefano Pioli next season. De Vrij stated, “I have a year left on my contract, plus an option. I’m extremely happy, and it’s been an incredible season. Yes, I still see myself at Inter,” effectively dismissing rumors of a potential departure for now.
Inter’s Sporting Director Piero Ausilio echoed these sentiments, saying, “De Vrij to Arabia? Sometimes these rumors have substance, but in this case, not yet. He’s important for us, he’s having an excellent Euro, and he’s part of this season’s project. If situations arise that he wants to consider, we’re here to listen. For us, he’s a squad player, and we’re planning the season with him.”
De Vrij has been with Inter since 2018 and is under contract until June 2025, with an option for an additional year. During his time with the Nerazzurri, he has made 236 appearances and scored 10 goals, contributing to two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia victories, and four Supercoppa Italiana wins.
Should Inter consider selling De Vrij, they are reportedly asking for around €15 million. However, based on recent statements from both the player and the club, it seems that De Vrij’s immediate future remains with Inter Milan.
