Antonio Conte’s unveils his vision for Napoli: A new era begins

Start

Speaking at the Teatro di Corte at the Royal Palace, Antonio Conte was officially introduced as the new head coach of Napoli. The former Inter and Juventus manager spoke at his first official press conference, and confirmed his vision for the Partenopei, following their disappointing 2023-24 season:

A Passionate and Determined Approach

Conte emphasized the importance of Napoli’s passionate fan base, stating, “Napoli is an important and passionate place, and it will remain so. This is its unique characteristic. We want to fuel this passion with responsibility, and together, we aim to achieve our goals.”

On Lukaku and Squad Reinforcement

Addressing the media, Conte expressed his eagerness to start afresh without succumbing to the pressure of last season’s disappointments. “We are eager to restart. We must remain calm and analytical, not panic about last year. The players are talented, and we will make targeted moves to strengthen the squad,” he said. Conte also praised Romelu Lukaku, calling him a “great player” and expressing hope to have him and Victor Osimhen on his side.

An “Angry” Napoli

Reflecting on the previous season’s struggles, Conte stressed the need for a determined and “angry” attitude. “We come from a year where many things did not go well. We need to be angry and eager for revenge. In the transfer market, we will aim to make no mistakes and bring in players who can improve the team.”

Clear Leadership and Decision-Making

Conte made it clear that he would have significant control over the squad’s composition. “I don’t have much patience, as you know, but time waits for no one. We are managing things together with the club. I was very clear: before discussing contractual and economic aspects, I wanted reassurance. I would decide who stays and who could take other paths. I found a lot of agreement on this,” he stated.

Key Players: Di Lorenzo and Kvaratskhelia

Conte highlighted the importance of key players like Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. “Di Lorenzo is a top player, our captain, and an important figure in the locker room. Kvara is the same. Last year, there was general frustration. This year must be a season of revenge.”

Osimhen’s Future

Regarding Victor Osimhen, Conte acknowledged the complexity of the situation. “I know Osimhen’s situation is different. There are agreements in place, and I am here to assist. If you ask me about the player, I can tell you he is of the highest level, but I cannot comment on previous discussions.”

Goalkeepers and Future Prospects

Conte expressed confidence in goalkeeper Alex Meret, stating, “Meret has our full trust. He knows my requirements and has great potential. Caprile is also coming, and he is on an important path.”

Drawing Parallels with Chelsea

Conte drew a parallel with his time at Chelsea, where he led the team to a Premier League title after finishing tenth the previous season. “What I cannot promise is victory because only one team wins, but we want to be competitive for the title.”

A City Passionate About Football

Conte concluded by acknowledging the city’s deep connection to football. “There will always be a strong passion here. The city is football-mad, but it must improve on its own. Those responsible for improving the city must do so. We will participate and try to involve everyone more through football. We must support the passion and desire. Naples is unique in the world, and it would be wonderful to see it grow economically and in football.”
