Cagliari eyeing Fiorentina’s Lucchesi as defensive reinforcement

Start

As Cagliari await the official announcement of their new manager, the club has begun to make moves in the transfer market. With Alberto Dossena reportedly heading to Como, the Sardinian side has expressed interest in Lorenzo Lucchesi, a central defender from Fiorentina who spent the last season on loan at Ternana.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that following the departure of Nahitan Nandez on a free transfer, Cagliari may be on the verge of losing another key player. Dossena, who had a breakthrough season last year, is increasingly likely to join Como. To fill this potential void, the Rossoblu are considering Lorenzo Lucchesi as a replacement.

The 21-year-old Lucchesi, a Florence native, developed his skills in the youth academies of Empoli and Juventus before joining Fiorentina in the summer of 2020. However, he has yet to make his first-team debut for the Viola.

Last season, Lucchesi was loaned out to Serie B side Ternana. Despite the team’s difficult campaign that ended in relegation, it proved to be a season of growth for the young defender. He made 27 appearances across all competitions, gaining valuable experience in professional football.
