Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta spoke to Sky Sport about the renewals of Lautaro Martinez and Nicolò Barella, as well as the Italian national team at Euro 2024. The Nerazzurri have been in talks with both players over potential contract extensions, and speaking with Sky, Marotta confirmed that all the work is done:
“We pay close attention to everything, but what matters most is that every player has a strong sense of belonging and the desire to continue with us. We are in a calm situation, with no players nearing the end of their contracts. Lautaro Martinez’s renewal is practically concluded, only the signature is missing. Even though it’s not simple since he’s in Argentina, we can consider it already done.”
Marotta then discussed Nicolò Barella: “He’s a player who combines the humility of a workhorse with remarkable talent. He’s modern and complete, capable of playing Calhanoglu’s role thanks to his vision, support ability, and precise passing. Currently, he’s very effective from an athletic standpoint, with great technical skills. In short, he’s an eclectic player. It’s practically done for Inzaghi as well.”
Finally, on the Italian national team, Marotta concluded: “Italy represents a heritage that must unite all clubs. The presence of a solid core of Inter players transforms the team into an Inter-National team, filling us with pride for the work done and the growth of the boys. I congratulated everyone; we are very proud that Inter can make its contribution.”
