Milan set to unveil Fonseca as new coach, Ibrahimovic holds press conference

Start

Milan are set to officially announce Paulo Fonseca as their new head coach today, signing him to a three-year contract until June 2027. The decision to appoint the Portuguese tactician was made weeks ago, with Stefano Pioli and the club mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.

Fonseca, who previously managed Roma from 2019 to 2021 and had a two-year stint with Lille in France, will earn €3 million per season at San Siro. This marks his return to Serie A, where he aims to lead Milan to success.

In a significant move, Milan has chosen to introduce Fonseca alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who will hold a press conference today. The former striker, now serving as a special advisor to RedBird and President Gerry Cardinale, is said to have played a crucial role in selecting Fonseca as the new coach.

Ibrahimovic’s involvement in the press conference highlights his growing influence within the club and could provide insights into Milan’s transfer strategy. The Rossoneri are currently in negotiations with Bologna for striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has a €40 million release clause in his contract. The main issue remains the commission demanded by agent Kia Joorabchian.
