Monza have officially confirmed the appointment of Alessandro Nesta as their new head coach. The news was expected as club CEO Adriano Galliani had already confirmed the news earlier this week.
A statement on the clubs official site read:
AC Monza announces that from July 1, 2024, Alessandro Nesta will be the new head coach of the First Team, signing a one-year contract with an automatic renewal for another season upon meeting certain conditions.
Born in Rome on March 19, 1976, Nesta rose through Lazio’s youth ranks, becoming the team’s captain and a club legend. During his time at Lazio, he won 1 Scudetto, 2 Coppa Italia, 2 Italian Super Cups, 1 Cup Winners’ Cup, and 1 European Super Cup.
On August 31, 2002, he made his historic move to AC Milan under Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani. Over ten years, he established himself as one of the world’s top defenders, winning ten titles.
His incredible run of triumphs at Milan includes 2 Champions Leagues, 2 European Super Cups, 1 Club World Cup, 2 Scudetti, 2 Italian Super Cups, and 1 Coppa Italia.
His illustrious playing career also includes winning the 2006 World Cup with Italy, earning 78 caps.
Nesta began his coaching career in the summer of 2015 with Miami FC. After two years in the United States, he returned to Italy in May 2018 to coach Perugia in Serie B.
In the summer of 2019, he took over at Frosinone, leading them to the Serie B playoff final.
His steady progression brought him to Reggiana, where in the just-concluded season, he guided the newly promoted team to an impressive 11th place in Serie B.
At Monza, he reunites with Adriano Galliani after their wonderful ten years together at Milan, marking his first coaching experience in Serie A!
