Ahead of the start of the European Championship, former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi shared his thoughts on the current Azzurri side. Speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi explained why he thinks Luciano Spalletti is the ‘right man in the right place’:
“The thing that gives me the most peace of mind is the presence of Spalletti,” Sacchi said. “I believe that the head coach is a great manager, capable of giving his teams a distinct style and gameplay, as he demonstrated with Napoli. I also believe that if the players he has selected for the Euros follow his lead, Italy could surprise us.”
Sacchi emphasized the potential for Italy to make a strong start. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the Azzurri hit the ground running. We will first play against Albania, then Spain and Croatia—teams that deserve the utmost respect and must be faced with seriousness and determination. The head coach’s job is complicated: he has little time to prepare for a challenging tournament like the Euros, but I am convinced that Spalletti is the right man in the right place.”
