Mourinho takes aim at Roma: “Nothing changed since I left, they don’t play to win.”

New Fenerbahçe coach José Mourinho took aim at former club Roma once again, saying: ‘They don’t play to win’. The Special One was dismissed from the Giallorossi at the turn of the year, and speaking on ‘RTP‘, he once again spoke about his time in the capital saying:

“What made me accept joining Fenerbahçe is that I missed playing to win. Coaching to win. At Roma, I didn’t play to win. Roma played to win because you say that if I’m there, I always play to win, but that’s not the case. So much so that from when I left until the end of the season, nothing changed.

“What we achieved in European competitions was somewhat unusual, but on a national level, we couldn’t compete. Fenerbahçe will obviously have its difficulties in Europe, but on a national level… Historically, there’s Fenerbahçe, Besiktas, Galatasaray, sometimes Trabzonspor; we’ll fight for the championship, and that motivates me. I didn’t have it at Roma anymore, I didn’t have it at Tottenham, and I miss not being able to drop points and having to play to win.”

“Italy among the favorites for the Euros? I don’t think so. It’s not a very talented generation. I don’t think they’ll win again.”
