Massimiliano Allegri and Juventus have reached an agreement to terminate the manager’s contract, with the coach reportedly taking a severance payment. The news comes after a tumultuous few weeks in which Allegri was initially sacked by the club for just cause.
La Gazzetta dello Sport outline how on Saturday morning, Juventus had notified Allegri of his dismissal, citing just cause. However, behind the scenes, the two parties had already been negotiating an agreement. According to the newspaper the lawyers for both sides had reached a tentative deal last week, but Allegri had pulled out at the last minute.
This angered Juventus, who then proceeded to formally dismiss Allegri for just cause. The manager was reportedly considering challenging the decision and suing the club for damages.
However, on Monday, Allegri had another change of heart (reportedly advised by his close friends) and agreed to the terms of the contract termination. While official figures have not been released, it is believed that Allegri has waived a significant portion of the €7 million net plus bonuses he was due for the remaining year of his contract. This amount may also include bonuses related to the recently concluded season, which saw Juventus qualify for the Champions League and win the Coppa Italia.
