Totti: ‘De Rossi did well to change course, but it’s a shame about the Champions League’

Start

Former Roma captain Francesco Totti says Daniele de Rossi did well to change the clubs course, but couldn’t achieve all they hoped for. De Rossi took over from Jose Mourinho at the start of the year and went on to help propel Roma into the top half of the table. Speaking about his former teammate in an interview to TvPlay, Totti explained the impact that De Rossi has had with the Giallorossi:

“De Rossi has had a positive journey, especially because it’s never easy when you enter halfway through the season. He did well to change course; he didn’t achieve what we all hoped for, but in the end, he had a good season.”

The Pupone then gave his judgment on the season of Dybala and Lukaku, who were called at the beginning of the year to lead Roma: “It has been a positive season for them, although us Romanisti hoped to reach the end and make it to another final. We are satisfied, and we look forward to next year.”

With the Euros around the corner and Italy gathering on Friday at Coverciano, Totti commented on the Azzurri: “When there’s such an important competition, the group comes before the individual. The team is strong, has a great coach, and we hope Italy can do well.”

Finally, a comment on Ranieri and Di Francesco, his former coaches: “Unfortunately, the time came for Mr. Ranieri too. He made this decision, and it’s sad for everyone that he left football, although after this feat with Cagliari, I think it was right and necessary to end this way. Di Francesco didn’t deserve relegation.”
