Riccardo Calafiori admits that he’d been looking to score a goal for a long time, having scored a brace in Bologna’s 3-3 draw with Juventus. The 22-year-old was man of the match, finding the net twice in a scintillating first-half performance. Speaking with Sky Sports post-match, he shed some light on his role with Bologna this season, and admitted he’s not thinking about the future just yet:
“I had been searching for a goal for a long time and had almost given up, but instead, I scored two very important ones. The atmosphere tonight was beautiful; I can’t remember one like this. The goal with my right foot? I still need to work on it a lot. I didn’t think much when I found myself in front of the goalkeeper. My left foot is decent, but I need to improve my right.”
“I’ve tried to improve in every aspect. My idea has always been to try to do everything.”
“Speaking with Spalletti? He complimented me. I hope for a call-up, but in my position, there are many players stronger than me. My role? In theory, a central defender (laughs).”
“Motta’s future? He’s been under a lot of pressure for a year (laughs). He said he’ll decide during the week. We all need to thank him.”
“My second goal? It’s not the first time. I like this transitional phase that allows us to attack the space immediately. I could have passed it to Santi, but I felt like going for it myself.”
“Would I stay at Bologna? That’s a tough question. The season isn’t over yet, and it’s hard for me to think about the future. I want to enjoy this beautiful moment for as long as possible.”
