Bremer and Ederson called up to Brazil squad

Start

Juventus centre-back Bremer and Atalanta’s Ederson have been called up to the Brazil national team for the Copa America. Brazil national team coach, Dorival Júnior, made some crucial adjustments to his Copa squad following an injury to Manchester City’s goalkeeper Ederson. Ederson, who sustained a broken right eye socket, will be replaced by Rafael from São Paulo.

Since taking the helm of the national team in January, Júnior has included Liverpool’s Alisson and Athletico Paranaense’s Bento as goalkeepers in his squad. In addition to Rafael, Júnior has also bolstered his team with Juventus defender Bremer, Atalanta midfielder Éderson, and Porto forward Pepe, all added to the roster on Sunday.

CONMEBOL, the governing body for South American soccer, announced on Thursday that team squads for the Copa America could be expanded to 26 players, up from the usual 23. This decision came after several teams, including reigning world champion Argentina, requested an increase in squad size for the tournament.

The Copa America is set to begin on June 20 in the United States, with Brazil’s first match scheduled against Costa Rica on June 24. In preparation for the tournament, Brazil will play friendly matches against the United States and Mexico.

Teams have until June 12 to submit their final squad lists.
