Corriere dello Sport journalist Ivan Zazzaroni opened his editorial final with a strong defence of Juventus coach Max Allegri. The Bianconeri boss looks certain to leave the club after a troubled three-year spell, but signed off with a Coppa Italia trophy. Writing in his column (Via TMW), Zazzaroni explained why he thinks it will be a tough job to replace Allegri, saying:
“He can go now. He’s brought home everything he had to and could…..The criticisms, the insults, the tensions, and the disagreements have all ended up in the Coppa Italia, his fifth Coppa Italia: Juventus won it by playing the game that most resembles it since the quality has significantly decreased, but the will and the sense of team prevail. And now Allegri no longer wears the tie, he tore it off, along with the white shirt, and shortly before, the jacket and the patience with which he had to endure three very unfortunate years.
“He’s left with only the Juventus DNA, the one where winning is the only thing that matters. And now Allegri has put back on his jacket, shirt, and tie and hugs Gasperini tightly, and it’s a beautiful scene that honors Gian Piero and all the greats of the field like him. And now, to make Allegri forget, one will have to do better than Allegri, who is no longer current, but history. And I don’t envy those who will take the responsibility of letting him go. The count of titles in black and white is quickly done: 5 Scudetti, 5 Coppa Italia, and two Italian Supercups in eight years.”
