Vincenzo Italiano urged his Fiorentina side to remain focused as they beat Monza 2-1 to keep their hopes of a top 8 finish alive. The victory puts La Viola in 8th place, and still in contention for a Conference League place for next season, despite having the final of this years edition to play. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia post-match, Italiano praised his players performance for fighting back and securing the result:
“We must stay focused and concentrated in every game. In a few days, we have a very important match, and we must approach it fully charged. We need to know exactly what we have to do both in the league and in that game. Today, we did well in the comeback. As seen, some were tired. It’s very exhausting, and we’re trying to manage our energy levels carefully. We’re in good shape and playing with enthusiasm. Like last year, the boys are pushing hard, and I’m pleased.”
The Fiorentina coach also commented on the performances of Nico Gonzalez and Arthur: “Nico is in good physical condition. He had a period that wasn’t brilliant, but now it’s clear he’s doing well. Having him in this condition in recent times is crucial. Today, Ikonè was missing, so I didn’t make him play. Arthur scored a great goal; it had been years since he last scored. I’m happy for him because once again, his resilience is growing significantly. I’m pleased because he’s a serious professional.”
Italiano concluded the interview by discussing the Conference League final: “I watched the return leg of Olympiacos against Aston Villa to study the opponent. They have quality and strong players. It’s a team of great sacrifice. We’ll also play in their territory; imagine what we’ll find there. It’s our second final, and we want to play it out to the best of our abilities.”
