Milan coach Stefano Pioli will make some drastic decisions for this evening’s match against Cagliari, dropping four first team regulars. Sky Sport Italia report that the decision is purely for tactical reasons, as four ‘untouchable players’ including Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao, Davide Calabria, and Fikayo Tomori are expected to start from the bench.
Pioli will switch to a 4-3-3 formation, introducing Yunus Musah in midfield alongside Tijjani Reijnders and Ismael Bennacer, with the attacking trio composed of Christian Pulisic on the left, Samuel Chukwueze on the right, and Olivier Giroud up front. Only Mattia Gabbia and Alessandro Florenzi will be retained in defence, with Malick Thiaw joining in the center and Pierre Kalulu on the right.
During yesterdays press conference, the coach hinted at some changes:
“At the beginning of the week, I told my players that my office is always open, so for those who felt they had given everything, for those who felt a bit tired, the office was open, but no one showed up. I’m not talking about motivation, but condition. It’s normal that those who have played more are less sharp, but I’m not talking about motivation. Tomorrow, I will field the team that I believe can guarantee me the result.”
