Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has been acquitted of racism charges following an investigation by the Federal Prosecutor. The alleged incident involved Napoli defender Juan Jesus, who accused Acerbi of using insulting racist language towards him when the two sides met before the international break. Part of the announcement from the Sporting Justice read:
“Noting that in this case the sequence of events and the context of behaviors is theoretically compatible even with a different reconstruction of the facts, as the proof of the offense has surely been achieved but the content remains gravely discriminatory confined to the words of the offended party, without any further supporting evidence and external, direct and indirect, even testimonial; Therefore, it is considered that the minimum level of reasonable certainty regarding the clearly discriminatory content of the offense is not reached in this case, therefore the sanctions provided for by art. 28 CGS are not applied to the footballer Francesco Acerbi (Soc. Internazionale).”
