Francesco Acerbi signed new Inter contract before Napoli match

Start

Francesco Acerbi has purportedly inked a fresh deal with Inter shortly before being embroiled in a racial controversy involving Napoli’s Juan Jesus. The 36-year-old centre-back finds himself in the spotlight in Serie A following allegations of racially abusing Juan Jesus during the latter stages of the match between Inter and Napoli, which ended in a 1-1 draw on March 17.

Both Acerbi and Juan Jesus underwent questioning by FIGC Prosecutor Giuseppe Chinè on Friday, during which the Napoli defender reiterated his accusations while the Inter player maintained his innocence, asserting that he had been misunderstood. A verdict is anticipated sometime next week.

Pasquale Guarro of Calciomercato.com reports that Acerbi and his representatives recently held discussions with Inter’s management at their Viale della Liberazione headquarters, where Acerbi reportedly signed a new contract extending for two years with an option for a third, just before the eruption of the racism controversy.
