Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot says he still hasn’t decided on his future beyond the end of the season. The Frenchman has a contract with the Bianconeri until June 2024, but talks over a contract extension are reportedly on hold until Juve confirm their position in next seasons Champions League. Speaking about his future while on international duty, Rabiot clarified his position, saying:
“I haven’t personally decided anything about my future. It’s true that last year I stayed at Juventus knowing that we wouldn’t play in European competitions. It was an important choice for me. Next season we should play in the Champions League and also participate in the Club World Cup. So these are things that are part of my reflections, but I haven’t made a decision yet.”
The French midfielder also provided an indication of the timing: “I’m waiting to finish the season, then we’ll discuss it with the club and I’ll see at that moment. For now, I’m trying to stay focused, recover from my minor physical issue, finish well, and prepare well for the Euros. I’m not in a hurry to make a decision. I’ll have to think about it carefully since I’m also reaching an important age for my career, I feel good. I feel in full possession of my means, and it will be important to make the right choice. And about the captain’s armband for Les Bleus, being in the French team as I have been at Juventus would be proof that I have reached another level. The coach knows me very well, we discuss many points, and he will decide. I think it will be better to decide before the Euros to be calm.”
Rabiot has also ruled out the possibility of returning to Paris Saint-Germain, where he left on a free transfer in 2019 to move to Juventus: “Since I went to Juve, every year they associate my name with PSG. On one hand, it flatters me. Then it remains complicated knowing how it ended. Of course, in football, you shouldn’t close any doors, but this will not be my priority.”
The 28-year-old also spoke about his compatriot Paul Pogba, who was suspended for doping for four years: “It’s a shame what happened. We are in contact and talk regularly. He was in Turin recently. I know he was waiting for the exact reasons for his suspension to appeal. I hope the sanction will be reduced. From what he told me, four years is an excessive penalty. I hope it will be reduced.”
