Maurizio Sarri tried to draw positives from Lazio’s elimination in the Champions League, insisting that their European campaign cannot be criticized. A 3-0 defeat in Germany was enough to see the reining Bundesliga champions through to the next round, while the Biancocelesti will now focus on the league. Speaking in his post-match press conference, Sarri reflected on the match and the missed chances from the first-leg:
“After the second goal, it was a different game. Tonight, the real Bayern showed up, but it was something that could have happened. We managed to stay in the game and even had opportunities to score. The 1-0 wouldn’t have dashed our hopes, but the 2-0 took away our convictions.”
He continued, “There were chances in the first leg. Coming here with a different result could have been a different story, but the technical gap exists. Being more technical, they are also more intense.”
Lastly, Sarri concluded, “The balance remains positive; a team like ours, which closes this campaign with more victories than defeats, cannot be criticized. We are on the edge in the league to return here; let’s see if we can concentrate to climb the standings.”
