Sassuolo Sack Dionisi Sacked: Bigica and Ballardini lined up as Potential Replacements

Start

Sassuolo have made the decision to sack coach Alessio Dionisi, with only the official announcement pending. A home defeat to Empoli has left the Neroverdi in 18th place, firmly in the bottom half of the table and in danger of being relegated in May.

Sky Sport Italia report that only the official announcement is awaited, but in the meantime, Sassuolo will be looking for Dionisi’s successor, as the team will take the field on Wednesday against Napoli. The training session after the defeat against Empoli, initially scheduled for the morning, has been moved to 3 p.m. Sassuolo could also opt for an internal solution (temporary or not) by entrusting the bench to Emiliano Bigica, the current coach of the Primavera, who will be busy against Lazio tomorrow.

The Neroverdi are considering various profiles to replace Dionisi: Davide Ballardini and Leonardo Semplici are on the list, but the former has an important and long-standing contract with Cremonese. Fabio Grosso had been sounded out in the past weeks when Dionisi seemed at risk before the game against Torino, but discussions did not continue. At the moment, there have been no contacts with Luca Gotti and Marco Giampaolo. But an internal solution with Bigica could also be considered.
