Milan defender Simon Kjaer was happy to qualify to the last 16 of the Europa League, but admitted his frustration at shipping five goals. The match ended 3-2 to Rennes, but Milan still secured passage to the Round of 16 despite the defeat. Following the match, Kjaer shared his thoughts with Sky Sport, explaining where he felt the team need to improve:
“We’re not satisfied with the goals conceded. We knew the atmosphere would drive them, and indeed, they scored. However, we could have taken the lead two or three times. We managed well until the referee decided otherwise.”
Reflecting on pivotal moments, Kjaer highlighted a penalty decision early in the game: “I think about the penalty awarded after just ten minutes, which tells us we need to play faster. I’m not happy with the three goals, but the important thing is securing qualification.”
Despite the setbacks, Kjaer emphasized Milan’s mindset going forward: “We must face any team with the goal of winning, as is always the case for Milan. We have a strong team, and we’re in good shape.”
