De Rossi: “Spalletti was my mentor, No Compliments When Losing”

Start

Daniele De Rossi says there were positives for Roma to take away from their 4-2 to defeat to Inter. In the first half, the Nerazzurri took the lead with Francesco Acerbi’s goal after VAR confirmation, but the Giallorossi managed to go into halftime ahead with the comeback completed by Gianluca Mancini and Stephan El Shaarawy. However, in the second half, Marcus Thuram’s brace overturned the scoreline again, and Alessandro Bastoni’s goal ultimately sealed the game, granting a crucial victory to Inter. At the end of the match, Daniele De Rossi commented on the performance to DAZN:

“I think there are many positive takeaways from this match, and we’ve understood that we can never lower our level if we want to win against these teams. I believe the game was essentially balanced, but I’m proud of my boys who gave everything. The stadium also acknowledged it; I think the path I saw is the right one,” De Rossi began, speaking to DAZN.

The Giallorossi coach then continued: “Episodes in football are everything, but matches are won together. We lowered our level a bit in the first part of the second half, and it’s natural that we lost. We decided to defend with five also out of respect for our opponents, and the only risk was Angelino’s physical structure. We knew we had to play a courageous game and that there would be moments when we suffered.”

De Rossi finally concluded: “We still need to analyze our game. I’m the football son of Luciano Spalletti, who didn’t accept compliments when losing because he said otherwise we fall into mediocrity. A draw would have been fair, but Inter didn’t steal anything. If we want to compete at the level of these very strong teams, we need to analyze this defeat. Europa League? Now we have Feyenoord to beat, and we must be ready to play in a very hot stadium.”
