The father of Juventus defender Facundo Gonzalez says his aim is to return to the Bianconeri and fight for his place. The Uruguayan youngster is currently on loan at Sampdoria under the guidance of former Juve coach Andrea Pirlo, and speaking with TuttoJuve, Gabriel González talked about his sons performances in the Dorian shirt and more:
Gabriel, how do you evaluate Facu’s year so far this season?
“It’s been a great season so far, especially for learning and gaining experience: Serie B is a high-level, a challenging championship, and even more so in a historic club like Sampdoria.”
Since October, apart from the match against Venezia, he has always been fielded in the starting eleven. How much has this adversity helped in his growth path?
“A lot, I think it’s part of football and it’s better to be prepared for every adverse situation. I wish it didn’t exist, but it’s not reality.”
Pirlo interprets defence slightly differently from other coaches, for him, the central defender can also play, for example, as a full-back. Can you tell us something about him and his training methods?
“The truth is that Facu is very happy to have the opportunity to have a footballing reference like Pirlo as his coach, but he doesn’t tell me anything specific about his training methods. He gives him a lot of advice, especially on game situations, and he always listens very carefully.”
Could he become Godín’s heir? Or do you see him more similar to another great defender from the past?
“I hope so, Godín is an excellent reference.”
Last time you told us that Facundo’s ambition is to return to Juventus. But aren’t you worried that a new defender, Tiago Djalo, has arrived, and that the competition has increased again?
“Facu is totally focused on Sampdoria today, but his future goal is to return to Juventus and earn his place. He will fight to be one of the starting defenders.”
