Three second-half goals for Bologna see them lifted back into Serie A’s European places, after a 4-2 home win over Sassuolo. Saussolo took the lead twice in the first half through strikes from Kristian Thorsvedt and Cristian Volpato. The hosts fought back every time eventually securing all three points late in the second half.
Despite a run of four league games without victory, three points for the I Rossoblu lifted them back into 5th place, level on points with Atalanta in 4th place.
For the visitors, Sassuolo, this is their 7th defeat in their last 8 games in all competitions. It leaves them 15th just a single point ahead of the drop zone.
Star man Domenico Berardi missed this match for I Neroverdi having just undergone knee surgery, whilst Bologna head coach Thiago Motta watched his team from the stands due to suspension. Worryingly, for the visitors they have lost all six games this season where Berardi has not featured.
In the 14th minute, the visitors took the lead. Bologna stopper Lukasz Skorupski played a loose pass out from the back which opposition midfielder Thorstvedt was able to steal before rifling home a low drive into the hosts net.

I Neroverdi regained the lead in the 34th minute. 20-year-old Cristian Volpato received the ball in space on the right before heading towards goal, on the edge of the box he quickly shifted the ball onto his stronger left foot before curling the ball just inside of the far post beyond the helpless Skorupski.
It took until the 73rd minute for the next goal. This came in the form of an equaliser for their hosts, when Victor Kristiansen whipped in a cross from deep, which found Giovanni Fabbian who headed the ball back across the goal and into the bottom corner.
As the game progressed Thiago Motta’s team began to pile the pressure on the visitors. This paid off in the 83rd minute when stand Captain, Lewis Ferguson created space on the left side of the box before firing in a low right-footed shot into the bottom corner, giving the hosts the lead for the first time in the game.
The three points were secured just before time when, substitute, Alexis Saelemaekers was able to craft space in the Sassuolo box before poking a clever finish past Consigli at the far post.
