Former Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini will remain in the USA for now, becoming LAFC’s player development coach. The veteran centre-back announced his retirement from the game at the end of 2023, prompting speculation that he may be returning to Turin to take on a new role with the Bianconeri.
The former Juve man has always been open about wanting to return to the club in the future, with Italian press speculating that he would become a manager in the Juve hierarchy,
Despite the links, Chiellini has now been confirmed in a new role for LAFC, with the MLS side releasing a statement confirming the news:
“Legendary defender and former LAFC player Giorgio Chiellini will remain with LAFC as player development coach, the club announced today. Chiellini, who played with LAFC for two seasons from 2022-2023, announced his retirement from professional football in December.
In his new role, Chiellini will work with LAFC coach Steve Cherundolo and the coaching staff to assist in the development of first-team players.
We were grateful to have Giorgio play the last 18 months of his playing career with LAFC.”
