Giallorossi general manager Tiago Pinto spoke about Roma’s links with Juve youngster Dean Huijsen: ‘I’ve always said that I want to sign a central back.’ An injury crisis has seen the clubs defensive line decimated, with Chris Smalling, Marush Kumbulla and Evan N’dicka all out of the squad. Speaking before the match, Pinto explained to Mediaset why the club need to invest in the market, but are limited by their financial fair play settlement with UEFA:
“This is like a match against Juventus, it’s like a final: the cup is like that. We’ll need to be as serious as possible to try to go ahead in the competition, what happened last year has happened, we can’t have that kind of memory.”
“Links with Huijsen? Sometimes I think I speak good Italian, maybe not. You always ask me the same questions and I’ve always said that I want to bring in a central defender , but also that we only have room on the list for youngsters and that we have problems with the margins of economic transfers.
“My job at Roma has always been like this and I’ve never complained, I’ve always brought in interesting solutions. Even in January, I think of Sergio Oliveira or Llorente or others. In Portuguese we say that doing things well and quickly is impossible, I work to do the best at Roma in the conditions I’m in”.
“My future? It’s my job, I’m not complaining about it. I’m in contact every day with agents and other colleagues, this is the time to be more active, it’s all more stressful but it’s okay. My future? If everything goes well after the game I’ll go home….”
