De Laurentiis: “What happened is my responsibility, I apologise”

Start

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis took a moment to apologise to the clubs fans following their 0-0 draw with Monza. Despite creating a number of goal scoring chances, the Partenopei ended 2023 in disappointing fashion, leaving them in 7th place in the standings, 17 points behind league leaders Inter.

Speaking in a press conference, De Laurentiis shouldered the responsibility for the teams poor run of form, apologising to the clubs supporters:

“I felt it was my duty to wish you all the best for a 2024 that will bring health, money and satisfaction.”

“Everything that has happened up to now is my responsibility. It’s not the fault of the players or the coach. I have to apologise to the Neapolitans for where we are in the standings. The championship is long and we will move on the market to make up for lost time. Only those who live the various situations from the inside know the truth.

“I have to pray to Gravina and Rocchi to give spectacularity to Italian football. But if instead of seeing football matches we see rugby matches…. I do not say that we should not receive yellow or red cards, but that the opponents should receive them too. There have been referees against Napoli, but I don’t want to talk about that. However, dear Rocchi, you cannot allow two gentlemen like Mazzarri and Palladino to be sent off like that….”
