Former Napoli defender Fabio Cannavaro confirmed that he was never in contention to take over from Rudi Garcia. The Partenopei elected to sack the French coach last month after a string of poor results, with former coach Walter Mazzarri replacing him.
Speaking with Sky Sport Italia, Cannavaro confirmed that despite reports linking him to the job, he was never in contention:
” There was nothing, no contact. Mazzarri as coach? He has brought back a bit of serenity. We hope he can resolve the situation, but the feeling is that the style of play that had enchanted everyone has been definitively lost. Or at least, it can only be seen in flashes” .
“Sacking Garcia? It was clear right from the start that he didn’t have the locker room on his side. Coming in after Spalletti wasn’t easy.”
