Inter are hopeful of securing a contract extension for Lautaro Martinez and could announce the deal by January. The Argentine forward has led the line for the Nerazzurri this season, having already netted 15 goals so far this campaign.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Inter have been in talks with the agents of the player for some time over a contract extension, and the deal is now down to just the details.
The newspaper writes that ‘the parties have continued to work tirelessly in recent weeks, fixing almost everything. We are at the final straight of a long marathon experienced with great serenity on all sides. Because Lautaro has always chosen Inter: in past years, when Barcelona and Real Madrid had tried to explore the possibility of his transfer; and also last summer, when Saudi Arabia would have been willing to even offer the moon to Il Toro, in order to receive a yes.’
Despite offers from overseas, Martinez is committed to the Nerazzuri and is expected to sign a new contract that will tie him to the club until 2028, earning an improved salary of €7m net per season.
The newspaper confirms that the new deal would make the striker the highest paid player at the club, with Inter aiming to announce the deal in early January 2024.
